When do I buy my dress? The #HELovely Timeline

Hello again, our gorgeous #HELovelies. If you’re reading this post, I’m going to assume that a certain someone just popped the question! Our heartfelt congratulations are flying through the airwaves to you!

There’s nothing we love more than nattering with our brides about their big day. But, wait… you haven’t started planning yet? Ok, let’s grab a cup of tea, get cosy and have a think about getting all your diamond-encrusted ducks in a row.

When it comes to planning a wedding, it can be a little overwhelming. With so many moving parts and exciting details to arrange, many lovelies want to jump straight into the good bit! The dress shopping…

Picture Kelly and I as your fonts of all knowledge. We know a thing or 130,353 about weddings, brides and all things planning. So, let us open our little black books and share some tips with you!

Pennies & pounds

After you’ve told your family and friends, grabbed a quick mani and posted a simply stunning ring-fie on Instagram, it’s time to get your coloured pens and pretty notebooks out…

Planning starts in your bank balance. Before you embark on any part of your big day, you need to know two things – how much money you want to spend and what the most important parts of the day are for you.

For example, if you’re super foodies, you’ll want to keep a good chunk of budget aside for dining. If you’re fashionistas, you’ll be counting the coins to go towards your show-stopping wardrobe. There’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to budget… other than, well, don’t blow it!

Pick, pick, picking!

Now, the fun begins! It’s time to pick a date, pick a venue and pick your bride tribe! You can’t choose a date until you’re sure your dream wedding venue is free – then, you can ask your gal-pals (let’s be honest, they’ve been waiting for aaages for you to ask!)

Styling

Once the venue is confirmed, you can start detailing out the finer pats of your day. From floristry to stationary, photography to calligraphy – this is when you can start getting creative. Think about digging out those Pinterest boards, heading to wedding fayres for inspiration and scouring Instagram for your local suppliers. Pretty soon you’ll have a good idea of the darling aesthetics of your ‘I do’s’.

THE Dress

I know, you’ve been waiting for me to get to this bit haven’t you? Contrary to what you might think, dress shopping is not first on the agenda… and let me tell you why…

It’s really hard to discern a bride’s style if she doesn’t have a venue yet. A beautifully embroidered ball gown might not suit a rustic barn wedding – just as a boho floaty silk design with a long delicate train might not fit a modern, slick hotel wedding. Our expertise allows us to help you find something that not only suits you, but also fits with your day. Plus, the date is always worth considering when it comes to styling up your gown. A winter wedding needs very different accessories to a height of summer bash.

Finally, if the key elements of your wedding aren’t in place yet, you’re not 100% sure what you can spend. Knowing how much budget you have is absolutely vital when it comes to dress shopping – we can’t bear to see #HELovelies compromise on their one-true-love because of an unexpected expense.

The finishing touches

Once you’ve chosen your perfect dress, you can start to pick your accessories, hairstyle and jewellery. Pretty soon, your beautiful bridal style will come together – and oh how we can’t wait to see it!
