Hayley Paige Dresses
I would like to introduce you to a brand new series we have decided to launch on our blog called ‘Getting to know…’. The one thing brides don’t usually get the chance to do is meet their wedding dress designer, and although we can’t quite make that happen we thought the next best thing would be for you to find out all about them!
We are going to be interviewing all sorts of wonderful designers and industry experts within the bridal industry, and what better way to kick off this new series than with the incredible Hayley Paige?
The history of Hayley Paige Dresses
Hayley Paige became the head designer for JLM Couture in 2011 at the young age of 25, this led her to launch her very own bridal collection under her name which brings us to today. Hayley Paige now has a vast range of bridal collections, one of which being Blush by Hayley Paige. We’ve loved Hayley Paige dresses, and Hayley Paige herself of course, for years and are so grateful to be able to stock Hayley Paige Blush dresses at Hannah Elizabeth.
We really have to stop ourselves from fangirling all the time, so you can only imagine our excitement when we found out we could interview her! Hayley Paige is an inspiring young woman, she perfectly captures beauty and playfulness in her designs whilst remaining incredibly chic. The Blush collection that we stock at Hannah Elizabeth completely encapsulates the hopeless romantics, and we don’t know a bride who wouldn’t love (at least) one of her designs.
So, let’s get on with the interview because we all know you’re desperate to hear what Hayley Paige has to say!
When did you first know you wanted to be a bridal designer?
“My grandma taught me how to sew and bake when I was young, so I was an early adapter of the creative mind-set. I was especially drawn to wedding dresses because unabashedly, I love romance and creating something with deep emotional value. Although the desire to create gorgeous gowns for a living was there, I didn’t always have the confidence in myself or understand the viability of design as a profession.”
“This uncertainty led me to originally pursue pre-med at Cornell, but I was fortunate to be able to overlap my studies with the Textile and Apparel Design major. Ultimately, industry experience and validation were crucial in the development of my craft during my formative years. It certainly did not happen overnight, but it is a privilege to have a career where there is such an inspiring and emotional reciprocation. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned so far is that I will forever be a student of design!”
“And with that, I want to create a space that is inventive and inspiring for young designers and artists.”
Which part of your job brings you the most joy?
“The human connection I feel to our bride. It is forever inspiring and something that grounds me as our brand grows.”
Where do you get your inspiration from?
“First, I remember there is always another gorgeous bride to design for and a beautiful dress to create. Inspiration is multifaceted for me and typically comes with a unique soundtrack. I love tapping into different personalities and energies, as opposed to feeling confined to an artistic theme.”
“If I’m feeling like I’m in a creative rut, I try to get out of my environment to reset or focus on a different aspect of the brand such as social media or trunk shows!”
How would you describe the Hayley Paige style in a couple of words?
“In three words, the Hayley Paige brand is: bonafide, happy, and supercaliswagilisticsexyhelladopeness.”
What is your favourite gown you’ve designed?
“The Gilmour gown! It ended up being an exclusive piece to our flagship boutique in LA, but it featured a tassel tie back and stunning blue embroidery with baby unicorns (which are my favourite animal, beside bulldogs of course!).”
Which would you say is/has been your most popular dress from your ‘Blush’ collections?
“I will always be such a fan of the West dress from a few seasons ago. It was our first foray into a gorgeous Marrakesh beading in a form-hugging design, that is so gorgeous on brides of all shapes and sizes!”
Why should a bride come to a Hayley Paige ‘Blush’ trunk show?
“Trunk shows not only offer the widest assortment of gowns and the best discounts, but it’s also the best opportunity to take advantage of customizations! We actually offer bodice and skirt swaps, so if you fall in love with the bodice of one dress and the skirt of another, we can offer that switch-a-roo! It’s like build-a-bear workshop, only with dresses!”
What inspired you for your Spring 2019 collection?
“This season, the Hayley Paige collection is about the interpretation of design in a physiological way. The idea is to create a collection that taps into all the senses (touch, sight, hear, smell, taste) … with the sixth sense being something radiantly new and energizing; a “sartorial umami.”
There is a generous amount of texture to digest, but also a considerable spectrum to explore a wider range in style. This season’s Blush by Hayley Paige plays a flirty game of opposites: spontaneity vs. ceremonials. I’ve always believed in pursuing the harmony of something fresh with something familiar when it comes to design.”
What would your 3 top tips be for a bride when choosing her dream dress?
“I have a few simple rules. The first is: “you gotta have that glow”. There is this unexplainable thing that happens when a bride has found the dress. It’s a glow that bursts out of her like star beams! Then, I also LOVE a bride that is willing to be in the moment and go with something a bit offbeat, so “when in doubt, go all out”!”
“And lastly, I encourage my brides to try on at least one gown that she didn’t expect to go for (one that’s not already on her Pinterest boards or saved to her Instagram). You would be shocked at how many times a bride walks into an appointment thinking she’s Jessica Rabbit and leaves as Cinderella.”
What 2020 trends can we expect to see and what are your current favourite trends?
“One of my favourite trends at the moment is the use of overskirts and layers. This option offers the ultimate versatility and ideal moment of “extra” because it truly creates the effect of two gowns in one. You get two different silhouettes and two very unique opportunities to shine. We have a gown named Elke on the Hayley Paige collection with a detachable skirt and it’s the ideal way to “have your dress and wear it too”.”
What’re your favourite Instagram accounts to follow?
“It’s not surprising that the majority of my Instagram feed is bridal gowns, BUT I also follow a lot of bulldogs and fitness accounts! I’ve also been exploring the YouTube platform a lot more. We just revamped our channel with new “Just Got Paiged” episodes that cover everything from behind-the-scenes at a photoshoot to what inspires a collection to creative lifestyle videos!”
The Hayley Paige Mantra…
“Hustle and heart” will set you apart. I think it’s important to work hard and be brave! In mastering your craft, try not to just form habits, but actually create intent and feed your purpose.”
